Top Five Ways To Rev Up Your Romance

By: Robbi Drake

Living life day to day can take a toll on your romantic relationship. Granted, you'd not change those children or your job for anything in the world, but they can add a little stress and a little more of the mundane to your day to day living that detracts from that initial fire that you first felt.

It's not that hard to bring it back, but it takes a little effort. Adding some spark to your relationship is easily accomplished if you put a little work into it. The reality is that everything takes effort. From your job to your parenting skills, right down to your love life. The person that you're committed to has some great qualities and chances are that you know precisely what they are because they attracted you in the first place.

Don't lose sight of those qualities as you go through the motions of paying the bills and raising the ids. Make it a point in fact to keep them in sight. Your kids will grow up and you're going to be spending a lot more time with that person. Keep some romance in the relationship well into your retirement by making it a point to use little tricks to inject it at any time during the day.

The Top Five Tips for Sparking Some Interest:

Get a sitter and send the kids to their house. Buy a bottle of wine, rent a romantic comedy and take the phone completely off the hook. No laptops, no work, nothing but some private time that tells your spouse that you're still interested and spend some time just relaxing together. It's sometimes hard to get used to it. The first few times you may even be a little nervous about it, but that's part of what makes it interesting.

Run a warm bath and ask for help reaching those hard to reach spots on your back? It tends to get their attention.

Write a love letter. Sounds a little corny doesn't it, but it wasn't in the beginning. If you have a spouse that packs their lunch to take to work, drop a little note in there telling them how attracted you are to them. One wife added one to her husbands sandwich.. He chewed it up, so that may be taking things a bit too far.

If they work in an office, or even carry a cell phone--make a phone call and spend two minutes over their lunch telling them what you like best about them instead of what you want them to bring home from the store. Those little-"honey could you" telephone calls don't hurt a thing, but once in a while, make one that isn't asking for something, but offers just a positive "I'm thinking about you" commentary. It will make a world of difference.

Send flowers or a balloon, or a gift of a favorite wine or movie for no reason at all. It doesn't have to be a birthday or an anniversary to celebrate all the things you like the most about the person you're with. Don't wait for one.
